We believe the printing industry can play a significant role in the fight against climate change. One of the things that excites us the most is the fact we can influence change in our customers’ organizations — these changes can be much greater than anything we can accomplish within the scope of our own company.
The Canadian printing industry has come a long way in the last 30 years with the elimination of many harmful chemicals and practices as well as the adoption of programs like the Forest Stewardship Council. Leaders in our industry have taken the next step and have been using 100 per cent renewable electricity and operating carbon neutral production facilities; we are hopeful that the success of these industry leaders will convince others to follow suit.
While climate change and sustainability initiatives can seem complicated and confusing, there are many resources available to help you through the process.
Get connected to a local environmental group that brings together like-minded individuals and organizations to discuss sustainability issues, share ideas, and collaborate on green business initiatives. We were very fortunate to have joined Partners in Project Green (PPG), an Eco Business Zone in the GTA. It was through PPG and the relationships made there that we were able to complete our first Carbon Footprint Analysis and Sustainability Report. Be sure to reach out to individuals in this publication — these people are passionate supporters of the environment and will take great pride in helping you and your organization get started in the right direction.
