Inspiring the next generation: Canon Canada hosts environmental education day with Bullfrog Power

Every year since 2017, Canon Canada has celebrated World Environment Day with a meaningful tradition: its annual Environmental Education Day. The two-day event brings together elementary students from local schools to spark curiosity about the natural world and inspire action to protect it.

This year, Canon Canada partnered with six organizations, including Bullfrog Power, to deliver hands-on, engaging workshops designed to boost environmental literacy. Participants learned from Earth Rangers, EcoSpark, Credit Valley Conservation, Microhabitat, and others in a series of immersive activities focused on ecology, conservation, and sustainability.

The day began with wide eyes and excitement as students met animal ambassadors brought in by Earth Rangers. From there, the group split off into smaller breakout sessions. Our team from Bullfrog Power led an interactive workshop introducing students to the world of renewable energy. Our team guided students as they investigated how electricity is generated, both traditionally and renewable sources like wind, and why it’s so important to transition away from fossil fuels.

To make these concepts tangible, we explored how wind turbines work. Students got hands-on by building their own pinwheels, testing out different blade designs to see which ones spun the most efficiently in windy conditions simulated by a fan. Through play and experimentation, students came away with a better understanding of the mechanics behind clean electricity.

Canon Canada isn’t just educating future changemakers—they’re leading by example. A bullfrogpowered customer since 2024, Canon chooses green electricity for half of the electricity consumption at its Brampton, Ontario head office. In 2024 alone, they displaced over 340 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, the same impact as 165 hectares of forest growing for a year.

On Canon’s behalf, Bullfrog Power puts 100% clean, renewable electricity onto the grid to match the power used. Our sources include wind, solar, and low-impact hydro from new Canadian renewable facilities.

We’re proud to partner with Canon Canada on this inspiring event and to help support their ongoing commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future for all Canadians.
