Our Bullfrog Power community is celebrating 20 years of impact!

In 2005, we revolutionized Canada’s energy landscape by giving businesses and individuals a green electricity choice for the first time. 20 years later, our community has collectively diverted more than 2 million tonnes of CO2e from entering our atmosphere and brought new renewable energy projects to life.

We were founded with a mission to provide an option for everyday people who craved a way to engage with the renewable energy market. At the time, a world powered by renewable energy seemed as futuristic as self-driving cars. Can you believe how far we’ve come?

In celebration of our 20th anniversary, we’ve created a video to spotlight our early beginnings and key milestones over the years. We hear from several individuals in our community, including the businesses that go beyond being bullfrogpowered to reduce their environmental impact, residential customers who use their power as consumers to help transition our energy landscape, and community project grant recipients who have leveraged our support to make tangible impact for local communities.

We started as a small company in Toronto, selling green electricity to homes in Ontario. Our idea was simple: let’s aggregate consumer demand and use that economic power to build new renewable energy projects. Our little green lawn signs (with that bright green frog) slowly, but surely, became quite the neighbourhood celebrity. From our humble beginnings, we have now grown beyond anything we could have imagined.

We soon expanded our green electricity services to include all of Canada, and in 2011 we introduced our green natural gas product. Thanks to our customers that span coast-to-coast, our mission to create a greener future continued to flourish with new products like green fuel in 2015 and power purchase agreement services in 2018.

Flip the switch—this journey's just getting started!

Plug in to hear from some of our passionate customers, community projects, and current leadership.

You’ll hear from one of our co-founders, Tom Heintzman, as he explores what the energy industry was like—and how the broader Canadian public viewed the issue of climate change.

We spoke with longtime residential customers, like Sarah, who shares what a green energy choice means to her and her family. Kelly Marie Redcliffe from Wolfville Farmers’ Market and Kolade Boboye at Hope Blooms, a community greenhouse run by a non-profit, discuss the positive impacts and sense of care felt by residents when they see solar panels on their community’s rooftops.

You’ll also hear from commercial customers like Brian Titus, President and General Manager of Garrison Brewing Company, Craig Stephens, Energy Management & Sustainability Specialist at LUSH, and Tyler Conway, Manager, Facilities & Branch Experience at East Coast Credit Union,  who share their unique sustainability initiatives alongside being bullfrogpowered.

Our Director of Market Strategy & Innovation, Andrew Yang, sheds light on Bullfrog’s strategy for sourcing renewable energy, and Suha Jethalal, President of Bullfrog Power, talks about our values and unique approach to accelerate our path to a renewable energy future that includes empowering community-based projects.
