How much thought do you put into flipping on a light switch? Do you consider where and how the electricity was generated, or are you simply trying to light up a dark room?

Bullfrog Power exists because people do care where their energy comes from, and we want to empower them to choose renewable sources. But flipping on the light switch is only half of the equation—turning off the lights to conserve energy is equally important.

Enter L’Image Home Products Inc., who recently joined the Bullfrog Power community and committed to using 100% green energy. L’Image designs, develops, and manufactures a range of electrical products, from rechargeable batteries to light bulbs with the latest LED technology.

Since the company’s inception in 1997, L’Image has been promoting energy-efficient products and lighting. “It’s a simple fix for consumers and an easy way to save money on their utility bills,” said Gillian Saidman, Director of Sustainability and Utilities at L’Image. “We’ve seen an increase in demand for LED products as the price has come down considerably over the years.”

This spring, L’Image won the EPA 2019 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award. The company also took home the NRCan ENERGY STAR Canada award for manufacturer of the year in lighting for the third time.

“It’s a great honour to be recognized for our continued work in energy efficiency, especially by a well-known certification like ENERGY STAR. It puts L’Image on the same playing field as some of the larger companies in the industry,” said Gillian.

Some companies would have been satisfied with two ENERGY STAR awards. But for L’Image, the drive to become more sustainable is stronger than ever.

“The team at L’Image took a hard look at our messaging around our energy-efficient products, and Bullfrog seemed like the obvious next step for us,” Gillian recalled. “We participate in other sustainability-focused initiatives such as increasing the recyclability of our product packaging and promoting sustainable initiatives amongst employees, so Bullfrog was a natural fit for our company culture.

In addition to choosing renewable power, L’Image is looking forward to developing even more energy-efficient products.

“I think home automation is exciting. The idea of an efficient smart home with occupancy sensors and app-based controls all tied in with energy-efficient products is the direction we are heading,” commented Gillian. “Technology could be the driving force behind behavioural changes when we think about electricity consumption, and when it reduces cost in our lives, it starts making a lot of sense.”
