The Ontario craft brewing scene is booming right now! With breweries popping up all around the province, it’s never been easier to support local business when it comes to buying a pint in Ontario.

Not only is it nice to know your beer didn’t have to travel far, but many Ontario brewers are also choosing sustainable practices as part of their commitment to high quality brewing. Beau’s Brewing Co.Whitewater Brewing Company and Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. are all bullfrogpowered breweries in Ontario that are working to reduce the carbon footprint of their operations.

With what seems like an endless number of breweries to visit, Brad Campeau ‒ Owner at Brew Donkey brew tours ‒ wants to help Ontarians experience them all, while staying safe and sustainable.

The idea for the Brew Donkey came to Brad while on a walking tour of breweries in Vancouver.

“I thought to myself, why don’t people do this in Ottawa? Find breweries online and walk to them?”

The answer was geography. None of Ottawa’s nine breweries at the time were within walking distance. And thus, the vision for Brew Donkey was sparked.

The average Brew Donkey tour starts with an on-bus education session reviewing how beer is made and providing some background on the local beer scene. Depending on the tour you choose, this is followed by visits to 3-5 breweries. You can expect lots of samples at each brewery, along with more info on how each brews its beer. Brew Donkey also provides complimentary snacks!

Brew Donkey tours are not only a convenient way of seeing all that the Ontario brewing scene has to offer, but they are also a window into sustainable options. Brad chooses green fuel with Bullfrog Power to address 100% of the carbon emissions created by Brew Donkey’s buses.

“Since I started running this business, I knew that the pollution created by the buses would be something I needed to balance out,” says Brad. “I chose Bullfrog because of the flexibility of their systems and the ability to adjust our commitment based on fluctuating volumes of buses on the road.”
