Northern Village of Green Lake, SK, May 24, 2017—A community centre in the Northern Village of Green Lake (Green Lake), located 300 km north of Saskatoon, has a new solar installation thanks in part to a partnership between Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and Green Lake.

“This project has been a wonderful opportunity for our municipality and our community members to be exposed to the positive impact of renewable energy. It is the first renewable energy project in Green Lake but will not be the last,” said Northern Village of Green Lake Mayor, Ric Richardson.

The Northern Village of Green Lake installed 96 solar panels on the roof of the community hall this spring. The project is the community’s first step in an effort to invest in renewable energy in what is hoped to be a larger solar initiative that aims to eventually provide much of the electrical power needs of the village.

In addition to receiving monies from Bullfrog Power, Green Lake received funding from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) as well as a rebate from SaskPower.

“Bullfrog Power is proud to be a part of the Northern Village of Green Lake’s transition to cleaner forms of electricity generation,” said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “Because of the thousands of bullfrogpowered individuals and businesses across Canada, we’re able to contribute funding to community-led projects that provide inspiring examples of communities adopting renewable energy solutions in response to climate change.”

Bullfrog Power, through its community renewable projects program, has supported more than 115 green energy projects across Canada. In Saskatchewan, Bullfrog Power community projects include solar installations on Saskatoon’s Broadway Theatre and The Two Twenty Building as well as a partnership with First Nations Power Authority.
