Toronto—Today, Bullfrog Power®, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and Lindt & Sprüngli (Canada) Inc., are announcing a significant environmental partnership. Lindt is choosing both 100 per cent green electricity and 100 per cent green natural gas with Bullfrog Power for its entire Canadian operations, including all offices, distribution facilities and 26 boutique locations. The organizations will celebrate the partnership with an event at Lindt’s  CF Shops at Don Mills boutique on October 17.

“We’re always striving to deliver a superior chocolate experience for Canadians to enjoy while meeting the highest standards of ethics and sustainability,” said Rudi Blatter, President & CEO, Lindt & Sprüngli (Canada) Inc. “Our commitment to green energy with Bullfrog Power builds on our achievements in sustainable sourcing, production and consumption of our products and takes us to a new level of environmental action.”

Through the partnership, Bullfrog Power’s generators put 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity onto the grid to match the amount of conventional power that Lindt’s facilities use. Across Canada, Bullfrog Power’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

Bullfrog Power’s generators also inject green natural gas onto the national pipeline to match the amount of conventional natural gas used by Lindt’s bullfrogpowered® facilities. Sourced from a unique, ground-breaking methane-capture project situated on one of Canada’s landfills, Bullfrog’s green natural gas is a climate-friendly alternative to conventional, polluting natural gas. Through this innovative technology, biogas is captured, cleaned up, and injected onto the national natural gas pipeline, displacing fossil fuel-based gas and reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

Lindt’s commitment also helps to support the development of new green energy projects across Canada. Bullfrog uses its customers’ support to help finance community-based green energy projects across the country. Projects recently supported by the bullfrogpowered community include solar installations with Montana First Nation in Alberta and the County of Brant in Ontario.

“We’ve long recognized Lindt as an industry leader in implementing sustainability throughout its entire production chain,” said Anthony Santilli, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Bullfrog Power. “By choosing green energy with Bullfrog Power, Lindt is further reducing its environmental impact and supporting the development of renewable energy projects from coast to coast—giving us all yet another reason to enjoy its premium chocolate.”

In addition to choosing clean, pollution-free energy with Bullfrog Power, Lindt’s global ethical and sustainability initiatives include:

  • Striving for traceability of ingredients, supporting farmer training and helping to improve agricultural practices through the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program.
  • Continually working to reduce the use of energy, water and paper during production. From 2008 to 2014, Lindt reduced water consumption by 39 per cent per tonne produced and reduced CO2 emissions by 16 per cent per tonne produced.
  • Founding the Lindt Cocoa Foundation in 2013. The not-for-profit organization works to achieve social and ecological sustainability in the cultivation, production and processing of cocoa and other raw materials used in chocolate production.
