Vancouver, BC—Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and TD Bank Group are collaborating on a first-of-a-kind green energy solution, encompassing the full suite of Bullfrog’s renewable energy products – green electricity, green natural gas and green fuel – to address 100 per cent of TD’s energy footprint for its Vancouver branches and a portion of its business-related travel in Vancouver. The collaboration between the two organizations supports the City of Vancouver’s Greenest City Action Plan, which has the goal of reducing community-based greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent from 2007 levels by 2020.

“As the first North American-based bank to become carbon neutral, we are committed to supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy,” says Karen Clarke-Whistler, Chief Environment Officer, TD Bank Group. “Through our collaboration with Bullfrog Power, we are addressing the entire scope of our emissions footprint in Vancouver. The initiative also provides a model for how business can reduce the full impact of their energy use and play a role in building sustainable cities.”

“The City of Vancouver’s Renewable City Strategy includes the goal of getting 100 per cent of our energy from renewable sources by 2050,” says Vancouver City Councillor Andrea Reimer. “This latest announcement with Bullfrog Power puts TD at the forefront of businesses in Vancouver that are supporting the transition to renewable energy.”

Bullfrog Power’s green energy is enabling TD to address the energy used in its Vancouver branches, as outlined under Scope 1 and 2 of the GHG Protocol, and business-related travel under Scope 3. TD is doing so by choosing Bullfrog Power’s green natural gas (Scope 1) and green electricity (Scope 2) for its Vancouver branches, as well as Bullfrog Power’s green fuel (Scope 3) for a portion of its business-related travel in Vancouver.

“Choosing all three of Bullfrog Power’s green energy products is significant because it demonstrates the importance of addressing all aspects of an organization’s energy footprint,” says Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “Our collaboration with TD provides a model for how organizations can reduce their environmental impact and shows the initiative we need to meet our climate goals and match the expectations of Canadians.”

According to the 2016 Sustainable Business Attitudes Survey, which was performed by Environics Research from August 8 to 21, 2016, reaching 2,000 adult Canadians and commissioned by Bullfrog Power, the public is taking note of the efforts of businesses to reduce their energy-related environmental impacts:

  • 85 per cent of Canadians said that they are more likely to buy products from a company that is purchasing green energy to reduce its environmental impact.
  • 90 per cent said that for businesses that use vehicles, such as company cars, delivery trucks or long-distance tractor trailers, it is important that they make efforts to reduce their transportation-related emissions.

About the Sustainable Business Attitudes Survey
The Sustainable Businesses Attitudes Survey was conducted via telephone by Environics Research with a representative sample of 2,000 adult Canadians (18 years of age or older), between August 8 and 21, 2016. The sample included a combination of landline (75 per cent) and cell phone (25 per cent) numbers. The margin of error for a sample of 2,000 is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, 19 times in 20.
