If you’re planning a trip to Ottawa, you may already know about the ongoing Canada150 events and attractions like the newly renovated Science and Technology Museum. For travellers looking for sustainable options, the city has some great options to discover.
There are many businesses we’re proud to have as part of the bullfrogpowered community, from terra20, which offers sustainable living products, to shopping destinations like Magpie Jewelry and local sustainable dining options (Green Rebel is one of our favourites!). If you have some free time, consider Ottawa’s sustainability walking tour.
Where to stay in ByWard Market?
Ottawa has some excellent hotels, but one of the newest to the bullfrogpowered community is Andaz Ottawa in ByWard Market. Andaz Hotel is choosing Bullfrog’s green electricity for its lobby, main floor restaurant, meeting spaces, and upstairs cocktail lounge.
We recently caught up with Matt Graham, General Manager at Andaz Ottawa, on the hotel’s first anniversary to find out how their first year went and to learn more about how they’re settling in as a sustainable destination for travellers to the nation’s capital.
BULLFROG: Andaz Ottawa just turned one! What are some highlights from your first year?
MATT: There are so many! Our grand opening celebration and events at our Sky Lounge were really memorable. We also received the Shortlist Award as part of the Wallpaper* Best Hotels 2017 Awards, which was a huge honour.
BULLFROG: What do you love about being in Ottawa’s ByWard Market?
MATT: ByWard Market is such a vibrant part of the city. What I love most about the location is that we’re so close to all of the farmers, trades, and craftspeople who ply their wares here. It’s so wonderful that our guests can easily walk to the Market in no time and enjoy all of the shops, stands and vendors it has to offer.
BULLFROG: We know that Andaz Ottawa is choosing green electricity with Bullfrog, but you do so much more on the sustainability front. How else is Andaz supporting the local community?
MATT: It’s important for us to weave the sights, sounds and tastes of our surroundings into the hotel for an experience that truly immerses guests in the eclectic culture of our destination. We are very proud of our partnerships with local businesses like Ferme Rêveuse, which supplies our poultry, Hummingbird Chocolate, and Purple Urchin Bath and Body Products as well as great cultural institutions like The Ottawa School of Art.
